John McCain: Biographical Sketch

John McCain Biographical Sketch
English

John McCain's experience in politics and strong belief system will help lead the way to change in the USA. John McCain shows how dedicated and loyal he is to his country in many ways, but one of them stands out from the rest. McCain’s father and grandfather were both four star admirals, and his father commanded all of the pacific United States Naval forces. During the Vietnamese War, McCain began flying carrier-based attack plans with low-altitude bombing runs on North Vietnam. In October on McCain’s 23rd air mission his plane was shot down during a bombing on Hanoi, the North Vietnamese capital. He broke both arms and one leg from the crash. McCain was taken to a prison called Hao Loa in Hanoi on December 9, 1969. While in the prison McCain was beaten, tortured and for three and a half of the five and a half of the years he was kept in solitary confinement. Shortly after being placed in the prison, the people who captured him soon found out that his father was the high-ranking officer in the U.S. Navy and offered many times to release him. McCain did not accept the offer because he did not want to break the military code and because he knew that North Vietnam would use his release as a powerful piece of propaganda. When John McCain arrived in the U.S. he received the awards of: the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. John went through nine painful months of rehabilitation to join the once again but soon found out that his recent injuries had impaired his ability be a part of or advance in the Navy. McCain shows that same loyalty now by publicly supporting the Iraq War, and frequently criticizes the Pentagon about low troop strength. McCain shows that he is strong and brave by the things that he has done in the past and by the things that he does now. John McCain frequently shows that he is right for the Presidency by doing what is right for the country even if it is not what is appealing to the public eye.

Unlike Barack Obama, John McCain has the experience it takes to be President. In the past John has worked in public relations which first introduced him to politics, was elected to be in the House of Representatives in 1982 and then was re-elected shortly after in 1984. He has won re-election to the senate three times, and emerged in 2000 as a solid challenger in the election against our current President, George Bush. His reputation as a maverick politician with firm beliefs has only increased, he has worked attentively in support of tobacco legislation and in the reform of the campaign finance system, acknowledging more liberal views proving that he is more than just a headstrong conservative.

McCain has lived a very fulfilling life and by his experience in politics and the government, loyalty to this country, strong unshakable beliefs, and many others John McCain proves to be the smart and sensible choice to be the President of the United States.

I like your post on John McCain. You had good, strong sentences. I like your topic sentence. I think it was very bold and it started off the post very well. You also used strong vocabulary which is very important also.

Good Job Rachel!!!

From reading your blog i feel your major stressing point on John McCain is about his political experience and how he served in the miltary.I feel that your topic sentence is supported by your details because you showed how his mlitary experience can connect to helping him as president.I thought it was instresting that his farther was also in the navy and i didnt know that before i read your blog. But one thing that leaves me wondering is that even though Mccain has experience in the govt. what did he do while he was in the senate because a persons cactions show more about them rather than the words.

While I read your post, I noticed that the most major thing that you stressed about was McCain's military back round. One of the many things I learned about McCain from your post was that he was imprisoned for five and a half years. And from those five and a half years, he was abused for three and a half.

Great topic sentence! it gave me the opportunity to have an idea about what I am reading before I began.

Why was McCain imprisoned for five and a half years? What was the cause? Why did the people stop abusing him after three and a half years? What was the cause?

Great Job Rachel!! Good job in organizing information!
