Both Parties on the Science Issues

ENVIROMENT

Democratic: As a part of the 109th congress Obama has worked to ensure that our countries enviromental laws keep the balance for America's want and need for a health enviroment. He has promised to keep up his work even in the 110th congress. Obama has co-sponsored and sponsored many acts and bills but one in particular stands out to me. The Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act, which he developed with Senators Leiberman and even John McCain. This is said to reduce 60% of the greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Senator Obama is also a big advocate for no lead. He has co-sponsoed and sponseror for these acts: 1)Lead Free Toys Act, 2)Home Lead Safety Tax Credit Act, and 3)Lead Poisoning Reduction Act. He is also a big advocate for making sure that no one gets mercury poisoning. He has introduced these 2 bills 1)Mercury Market Minimization Act, 2)the Missing Mercury in Manufacturing Monitoring and Mitigation Act.
Republican: John McCain has always expressed freely his belief in global warming. He argues that the planet is increasing the tempuratures to benefit the enviroment and globe, even though scientist claim that he is "proved mistaken". The Republican Presidential Candidate has said that the expansion of nuclear power must be considered. By expanding nuclear power that is reducing the carbon-fuel emissions, and John McCain has said that his set goal is that by 2050 America would have reduced this level down 60%.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Democratic: On October 1 Obama made a goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons in the entire world. He has said that nuclear weapons have become "increasingly hazardous and decreasingly effective". He said that he will persue a global ban on the production and deployment of missles. He has also said that "In 2009 we will have a window of opportunity to renew our global leadership and bring our nations together". Barack Obama has said that if elected he will "lead a global effor to secure nuclear weapons and material at vulnerable sites within 4 years".
Republican: McCain is exactly the opposite of Senator Obama in agreeing or disagreeing, as usual. McCain is a strong advocate on the development and deployment of missile defenses. John McCain has said that he was committed to the deployment of effective missiles in order to decrease the chance of the very real prospect of someone deploying a missile to our nation. John McCain has said that he does not and will not trust the "balance or terror" to protect the United States, but will work at the deploying of effective missiles in defense of our homeland and people.

OFFSHORE DRILLING

Democratic: Senator Barack Obama has always been against the concept of offshore drilling and ending the federal maratorium, but since the early 1980's he has said that he would be willing to comprimise his position on those two topics. He would only be willing to do that if offshore drilling was included as a part of a strategy to reach lower energy costs. When Senator McCain and President Bush wanted to end the maratorium, Obama recieved much critism from enviromentalist and other supporters of ending it. One aspect of Obama's energy plan is reducing the oil consuption by, at least, 35% which would equal up to 10 million barrels each day by 2030.
Republican: John McCain is a supporter of offshore drilling and claims that it will help American families because it will lower gas and food prices. John McCain has said that offshore drilling is just one aspect of a "all of the above" plan, and not the entire thing. Some alternative fuel that McCain has mentioned are biofuels, solar, wind, tidal, nuclear energy, and coal.
